Where Losers Are Winners: Bay to Breakers
It is questionable whether San Francisco is a real place. The city is home to some of the world’s smartest people with crazy good talent, but all it takes is nice weather to morph the genius population into a bunch of drunk college kids, and this weekend was no exception.
Bay to Breakers is an annual 7.5 mile footrace that is all about the losers. Though police threatened they’d be stricter than usual, thousands managed to successfully avoid law enforcement and enjoy some sunny, drunk debauchery.
To give those who aren’t familiar with the event an idea of what it’s like, here’s a brief synopsis: wake up at 5:30 am, dress in some variation of American Apparel neon (or opt to forgo clothing all together), jello shots, beer bongs, sufficiently intoxicated by 10am, and passed out by 3pm.
Even though we may act like we did in college, we are not anymore. Hangovers have become significantly longer and more painful; so thankfully, Bay to Breakers does not happen every weekend, but we’ve still got the Monday blues following such an epic day.
